Wayne Dyer, the new Chair of English New Zealand
New Chair for English New Zealand

Language school association English New Zealand has announced the election of Wayne Dyer, Principal of Auckland English Academy and the wider ICL Education Group, as its new Chair.

Wayne replaces Ewen Mackenzie-Bowie, Director of ICL Education Group, which also includes two other English New Zealand member schools, New Horizon College and Bridge International College.

English New Zealand said Wayne had been involved in the English language teaching industry for almost 30 years, working in Spain, the UK, Turkey, Australia and New Zealand, and has held senior academic and leadership roles in both public sector institutions and private language schools.

Wayne said he was looking forward to assuming the role of Chairman at a time when the future of English New Zealand was looking bright.

"English New Zealand schools had growth of approximately 20 per cent in student numbers, weeks and tuition fee revenue in 2016," he said.

"Our membership also grew and is increasingly diverse. Our reputation for quality remains outstanding and all English New Zealand member schools must meet rigorous English New Zealand standards over and above NZQA [New Zealand Qualifications Authority] requirements. "

He added, "English New Zealand's leadership in the sector is widely recognised. It is vital that we continue to work with government to ensure the right policy settings to promote growth in the industry."
