Opinion... from the News Editor

I write this week's opinion letter on the eve of the 20th Alphe UK conference! Who was there at that very first one? We'd love to hear from you!

It is fair to say that it has grown a little since then. This weekend will be the largest ever with more than 1,100 delegates gathering for three days of networking, business meetings and celebration of the industry - generally through the infectious buzz of the three days, and specifically during the StudyTravel Star Awards (more on that below).

StudyTravel Alphe UK is the exciting start of the industry marketing season: brochures are launched, new programmes and centres are unveiled, partnerships are forged or refreshed, and selling commences!

We look forward to hearing about many of these developments, do please come and visit the StudyTravel Magazine editorial stand (stand EX40, Upper Floor) to fill us in or grab me as I wander around.

There will also be a member of the editorial team on hand at the StudyTravel Magazine Welcome Area in the Primo Bar (lobby floor) at the Westminster Bridge Park Plaza between 11:00 and 16:00 on Friday (1st September) if you fancy a quiet chat before the conference starts. (And if you aren't attending, we'd love to hear from you with news all the same of course!)

On Friday 1st September prior to the welcome reception, we also have the unique gathering of the national agency associations and the national/international language school and educator associations for the FELCA and GAELA AGMs, and then an open-to-the-public presentation of their annual data and updates.

Truly, this is a unique gathering of organisations that between them shift and welcome hundreds of thousands of students, and the presentation is a once-a-year opportunity to tap into some of that rich insight.

At the conference, we are inviting agents to come and complete our StudyTravel Magazine reader survey. This will help us refine the magazine and make sure that we are delivering what our readers want to read and know about the industry.

There is a prize draw for all agents that participate in the survey, as well as a giveaway of some special StudyTravel mugs for the first few agents that come to the StudyTravel Magazine editorial stand (EX40, upper floor) and answer the short questionnaire. What are you waiting for?!

There will also be an exciting competition during Alphe UK to win an amazing pair of snapchat glasses as well as sponsorship packages of StudyTravel TV, our exciting new platform for news videos. And on that subject, look out for the roving cameras during the course of the conference.

And of course, I hope you have your glad rags and dancing shoes ready for the industry event of the year on Saturday night.

The winners of the StudyTravel Star Awards 2017 will be revealed during the much-anticipated red carpet event at the London Park Lane Hilton; the culmination of the peer-voted recognition of excellence in the industry. Who will win? Which organisation will pick up this year's new Star Service Provider category? And will we have any more inductees into the StudyTravel Super Star Hall of Fame for five-time winners?

If you can't be there, look out for the StudyTravel Magazine twitter feed for live updates from the gala dinner, or the subsequent news coverage.

I will be on the stage presenting the awards with the two glamorous Nicolas (Lutz and Hancox), and we look forward to seeing you all there. Best of luck to all those nominated!
