Staytoo Apartments expands to Spain and Portugal

Staytoo Apartments, a student accommodation provider based in Germany, has announced plans to expand into Portugal and Spain.

A development in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon is set to open for the 2019 academic year, located in the Amoreiras district, close to many of the city's universities.

The scheme adds to the more than 1,000 beds that Staytoo currently operates at six properties in the German cities of Berlin, Bonn, Kaiserslautern, Leipzig and Nuremburg.

Explaining the expansion, CEO Rainer Nonnengässer said, "The lack of quality supply and the growing student numbers have driven our attention outside Germany, and we are thrilled to present the Staytoo concept internationally."

Staytoo offers self-contained, fully furnished apartments with chill-out areas, in-house gyms, on-site concierge and all-inclusive rent.

The company said, "They provide more than just a room and a bed: they create a home with a safe and welcoming community. Staytoo social areas are to encourage students to have fun and connect with peers, which will ultimately enhance their academic performance and personal growth. Under the motto 'living on your own, while sharing your life', Staytoo has successfully developed a concept which combines the amenities of a private apartment, together with exceptional common facilities to promote a strong feeling of community and a fun atmosphere."

Staytoo Apartments, which is a brand of the MPC Capital Group, has also signalled intentions to move into Spain's student accommodation sector, citing the lack of quality beds in a number of university cities across the country and claiming they would bring a new concept of student living to the Spanish sector.

Rainer was one of the contributors to a debate on technology in student accommodation at the Class Conference for Europe's student housing sector, held in Lisbon last month.
