The Student Hotel announces new Vienna plans

The Student Hotel has announced plans for its first Austrian destination, an 822-room flagship co-living and co-working project in Vienna.

Located on Nordbahnstrasse in the heart of Vienna's 2nd district, construction on the 37,878 square-metre residence will commence early next year for an opening due in the second quarter of 2020.

The Student Hotel Vienna will comprise a mix of contemporary student rooms, hotel rooms and co-living studios.

In a statement, the accommodation provider said that the 4,000 square-metre ground floor area has been designed to be "open and inviting to the public and local community", and will include services such as study and gaming areas, meeting rooms, co-working spaces dedicated to start-ups and local businesses, restaurants, bars, gyms and sports facilities.

The company said, "The acquisition is in line with The Student Hotel group's strategy to develop high-quality mixed-use accommodation in major European cities to meet the demand and new way of living and working of students, young professionals and international travellers and entrepreneurs.

"The group has been investigating various locations in Vienna for several years, waiting to find the right project to make its Austrian debut with a major new flagship. The development is the first step in growing The Student Hotel's Austrian network, where it is looking for redevelopment and regeneration projects in cities such as Salzburg, Innsbruck and Graz."

Felix Hillen, The Student Hotel's Managing Director, said, "We are very proud to announce that we have teamed up with S+B Gruppe and Investa Real Estate to develop one of the largest and most innovative Student Hotels of the group. We are excited about the location and the ambition of the city of Vienna for the redevelopment of the Praterstern area in which The Student Hotel has been invited to play a vital role.

"Our ambition is to create a vibrant heart which will address the needs of both the locals and our international community, ensuring Vienna is a key destination in our European network."

The Student Hotel currently operates 4,293 rooms in 11 locations across Europe, with a raft of new openings already announced for the next two years. The group plans to have 17,550 rooms across 41 properties in major European cities by 2021.
