Twin launches new employability courses

UK-based work experience and English language provider Twin Group has announced a suite of new career-oriented courses for young adult students.

The company said that the courses, available for students aged 16-to-25 years under the umbrella title of Global Career Skills, were responding to a growing global emphasis on employability skills for young people, from school leavers to qualified graduates.

Programmes can be configured to meet specific needs, the company said, but three indicative packages have been launched: English with Employability; English with Business Simulations; and Young Entrepreneur.

Adrian Butcher, Twin Group Marketing Director, said, "Twin clearly recognises major variations in student needs for different educational paths. Those starting their career early need core employability skills in applying for work; others targeting higher education will benefit from more advanced 'business stimulation' and project activities, whilst collaborating, communicating and solving problems in English."

The courses are available to students from any country, Twin said. Work experience components can be added, and a limited number of Tier 5 visas for work experience can be sponsored for suitably qualified non-EU students, the company added.

Explaining the inspiration for the new programmes, Adrian referred to a study by French human resources company Emerging in which 3,450 managing directors and 2,500 senior recruiters ranked universities based on graduate employability.

Adrian said, "It highlighted the importance and perceived nature of employability, where more than 70 per cent of respondents rated employability skills more important than 'specific technical or academic knowledge and skills associated with their degree' for roles in business management, engineering or IT. Almost 90 per cent agreed these are 'a set of job-related aptitudes and behaviours', like adaptability, teamwork and communication."

He added that internships with course, group project work and practical simulation exercises were the top three suggestions from respondents when asked how universities could help improve and adapt students' personal qualities.

Established in 1995, Twin Group provides a portfolio of employment and training, work experience, volunteering and English language programmes.

In the 2014 StudyTravel Star Awards, Twin Group was inducted into the Super Star Hall of Fame after winning the ST Star Work Experience Provider category for a fifth time.
